THEME: HANG ON, GOD IS ABLE
The message of this morning can be summed up in one word- PERSISTENCE. Persistence simply means Hanging on or Never giving up. The Prophet Isaiah in the first reading says: “just a little while, and Lebanon shall become a fruitful vine. The text was simply admonishing the children of Israel to hang on a while.
In the Gospel text, Mathew narrates the story of the healing of two blind men who heard that Jesus was around and screamed for him to save them. At first, Jesus did not answer them a word, but they kept calling and crying for help. They must have walked with him a long distance, for it was only when Jesus entered a house that he answered them. These men were determined. They will not lose hope nor give up. They’ll not accept silence for an answer. They kept calling until they got the full attention of Jesus and their problem was solved.
We too must learn to hang on. We must learn to persist. We must never give up. We’ve got to pray like these blind men to gain heaven’s attention. We’ve got to keep calling even when it seems as if heaven is silent. Hanging is a demonstration of faith in the saving power of God, and faith is the unique element that tears open the heavens for prayers to be answered. Faith is all God desires of us. And by faith, our prayers will be heard and whatever good we desire, God will grant. God is able!
Good morning and Happy Weekend!
