HOMILY OF FRIDAY WK 29 OF ORDINARY TIME YR II (23/10/2020)

THEME: THE BOND OF PEACE
St. Paul today exhorts us work in a manner worthy of our calling with all lowliness and meekness, forbearing one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. The reason for this is simple: There is one body and one Spirit, just as we all were called to the one hope, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of us all, who is above all and through all and in all.
In this single paragraph, St. Paul summarises the entire Christian life: It’s a bond of peace in the unity of the Spirit. It’s this bond of peace that should inform our day to day activities, inform our way of life, direct our thoughts, words and actions. The entire Christian life is the struggle to maintain the bond of peace but often it can be so frustrating because our efforts can seem futile. The more you struggle, the more farther we break away from each other. What started as a peaceful protest in our darling Nigeria that was yielding results has become a state of anarchy that is because many have failed to understand and interpret the signs of time in the light of faith and reason.
No wonder Jesus advises in the Gospel reading that, we should look for the signs of cracks in our relationships and mend them early enough before the matter gets out of hand. We need to mend them early before they split open. There’s no point for always getting ready to unite but never uniting. Today is the time for tomorrow may never be ours.

GOOD MORNING AND HAPPY WEEKEND!
